In 1985, the joint venture RCA/Sharp acquired 120 acres of land in Camas, WA, while occupying quarters in nearby Vancouver. Two years later, Sharp opened a Design Center, also in Vancouver.

In 1989, Sharp Microelectronics Technology (SMT) broke ground at the former RCA/Sharp venture, moving into its 102,000 square foot building the following year. Subsequently, the Microelectronics Group migrated from Sharp’s subsidiary in Mawah, NJ, to be closer to a growing Pacific NW high-tech industry.

Consolidating to a strategic product mix and sales structure, SMT merged into Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC) and combined with Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas. Sharp Labs of the Americas was located on the site in 1995, one of just two Sharp research organizations outside of Japan.

Customers get much more than just a “part” when they work with SMA. We continue our legacy of leading-edge, performance-based products backed by U.S.-based sales and support with people in every region.

Throughout our history in LCD and Electronic Components, we’ve developed a brain trust with deep knowledge in virtually every vertical industry and solution set. Then, we expand that reach via partnerships with the leading distributor, sales representative, and manufacturing organizations in the Americas.
